Entrepreneurs can buy an established website for as little as $200.

BusinessesForSale.com features a number of internet opportunities, and whether they're an online retailer, a web tool or an internet directory, these websites for sale invariably offer low overheads, modest prices and an opportunity for prospective buyers to supplement an existing income and work from home.

What follows is a list of some of the most intriguing online business opportunities on the world's largest directory of businesses for sale (at the time of writing).

Unusual

Tender Tidings Inc. is a unique technology company that offers parents a web platform for busy parents and family members to stay connected with their children, grandparents or even pets through secure video streaming. Current owner, CEO and sole employee Anita Ortiz, is selling this unusual venture due to other business commitments for the asking price of $65,000.

Ortiz is offering her expert support and training post-sale to ensure a straightforward transaction. The business offers its customers various 12-month subscription packages, which include a wireless video camera and a set-up installation service. Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, the business is nevertheless relocatable and can be run from home.

Ranching Experience offers city dwellers who want to escape urban life the chance to experience life on a ranch and could appeal to an existing travel business looking to expand into a niche market. The website domain and brand is on offer for a reduced price of $14,500, which includes all trading operations and contracts already in place.

Clients can enjoy a range of experiences on their vacation, from wagon rides and cookouts on a traditional ranch in Wyoming to rodeos and rafting on a cattle farm in the Rocky Mountains.

The seller offers full support and training for at least two years after the business sale, and will also consider a buyer instalment payment.

Modest price

For just $700 you could buy a Samsung fridge, Alexander Wang flannel boots - or your own business

For just $700 you could buy a Samsung fridge, Alexander Wang flannel boots - or your own business. A weight-loss website with a valuable domain name is on sale for this modest price.

The self-updating site translates into 49 different languages and its main revenue source is through Google AdSense, Amazon product sales and Clickbank product sales.

Last year Forbes ranked New York City as the best city for singletons, meaning a Kings County-based dating event website is situated in an ideal location. Established for seven years, the business has two full-time and 13 part-time employees, and offers a high-traffic website driven by top search engine rankings.

The company has hosted more than 1,000 events to date, and has 35,000 registrations from 25,000 members. This established relationship with clients, venues and hosts will prove invaluable to prospective buyers.

Business buyers can benefit sometimes from the mistakes made by previous owners. BlackwaterTees.com signed up to a supposedly reputable affiliate program and spent $3,000 a month, but the return was fairly paltry. The proprietor of this t-shirt retailer has now terminated the agreement and this and other lessons they will gladly pass on to new owners. A buyer with marketing nous will help the business improve its performance, the current owner suggests.

Novel

Meanwhile, in the mid market there's a novel, highly profitable business opportunity. Described as an emergency notification or Reverse 911 service, when the website received messages it automatically forwards them to a specified list of contacts by calling every telephone number and sending the message to every email and text device, including cell phones.

The business, which boasts a turnover in excess of $6m and profit of just under $3m, is priced at $5.5m and has been established for six years, with the current owner looking to retire.

The recession marked a renaissance for the coupon industry with a 27% growth in coupon redemption reported. The coupon comeback was a result of cash-strapped Americans saving cash where they could, and while newspapers are still the primary method of coupon distribution, online coupon growth has skyrocketed, rising 236% in 2009, according to research.

With this in mind, coupon website Charleston Rewards is a great opportunity to capitalise on the industry surge, which is unlikely to abate with years of comparative austerity ahead. The website has a top-five ranking in Google and post-sale support is promised.

With social media taking over the internet marketing world, a Twitter-incorporated mobile messaging business is potentially highly lucrative. The $240 business enables Twitter members to receive updates on their tweet activity through email, IM and SMS updates.

The seller, who built the application himself, said: "I will instruct the buyer with all the tips and tricks to use with this kind of site. I can also suggest some great ways to promote the business, and give advice on how to set up and get the maximum profit."

Intriguing platform

With many people refusing to pay to read newspapers online and blogs remaining popular, EmailDaily.co.uk offers an intriguing platform that unites both concepts. Subscribers receive free daily news and can create their own news to disseminate to their target market.

The business sale includes a fully-automated website, pre-paid hosting for the next 12 months, free ongoing technical support and integration with social media tools, such as Facebook, Twitter and Google Buzz.

The Bar/Bat Mitzvah events industry is a multi-billion dollar marketplace. ModernMitzvah.com, which has capitalised on this industry opportunity, is listed for sale at $29,000. The service provides advertising space for Bar/Bat Mitzvah and wedding vendors to promote their services and covers 49 US cities.
