Originally opened in 2008, this well-established and extremely popular neighborhood liquor store was sold to the current owners in 2021. Upon purchasing the store, the sellers spent thousands of dollars updating the fixtures and equipment and making ample leasehold improvements. More importantly and impressively, they have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars updating, upgrading, and growing their impressive inventory. Since late 2021, they’ve consistently added several hundreds of thousands of dollars to inventory to bring it up from $45,000 when they purchased the store to over $160,000. The intent was to build up the inventory, including specialized bourbons and other sought-after liquors, improve the space and fixtures and then get profit margins to 30+% once the store was up-to-date and fully stocked. The current owner/operator is on track to get profit margins in line with goals.
Sales in 2023 were $580,523 with an SDE of $40,143. In 2022, total sales were $511,418 with an SDE of $49,546. The sellers reinvested cash flow back into the business to build up the inventory, but any new owner can focus more on profit margins and reduce purchasing. Even doing that by 25% would add significantly to the bottom line. Throughout 2022 and 2023, the owners focused on updating and building inventory levels so that any buyer is well poised for reduced purchasing and higher margins. The overhead is low, and the location is convenient, with ample parking and high visibility in a strip center full of very successful neighboring businesses.
