Demolition is one of the few construction trades where the work arrives whether the market is building or clearing. Every new tower, warehouse, and subdivision in a growing metro starts with something coming down first. In one of the fastest growing metro markets in the Southeast, a general contractor and demolition contractor has spent three decades building the license portfolio, bonding capacity, and equipment fleet to capture that work, and is now available for acquisition.

The company runs full service: It pulls permits, produces asbestos reports, performs asbestos abatement, handles interior and selective demolition, does its own saw cutting, hauls the material, and finishes the site with sod, irrigation, and temporary fencing. Clients hire one contractor from the first permit to the final invoice rather than assembling four. The company is also a certified minority-owned business and holds federal, DOT, and power plant clearances that most regional competitors do not carry.

The company’s current backlog runs into next year, and it typically has 10 to 15 jobs in permitting at any given time, running 4 to 8 active jobs at once. Roughly 60% of the work is commercial and the balance is residential. About 75% comes directly from property owners and developers rather than through general contractors, which keeps margins with the company.

The owner has run the business for stability rather than scale, and says so plainly. Profits have been held at a level that supports the life he wants, not at the level the market would allow. That decision is the opportunity. The license portfolio and bonding already cover the entire state, and the owner sees three other major metros in the same state open to a branch strategy today.

The company also declines a category of work by choice. It does not bid structures over five stories, because those jobs draw larger competitors who bid them down and require rented equipment. The owner would rather charge full price on the work he can start and finish quickly. A buyer willing to invest in equipment and estimating capacity could open that tier, or could simply run the existing model in more cities.

The owner is selling because he is ready to step out of the driver's seat after 30 years, not because the business needs him to. He is willing to stay on for whatever transition period a buyer wants, and his key people are expected to stay post-acquisition. The ideal buyer is an operator or acquirer with capital and appetite for geographic expansion, stepping into a company with permanent demand, a tenured crew, and a clean, cash-positive business.
