Yes it is possible to buy a business in the UK, you would need £200,000 ($400,000) minimum to do so though.

There are plenty of business brokers/agents in the UK who advertise on the UK version of businessesforsale.com

The Uk government website http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf10setupbusiness gives you details about the visa.

I would also suggest that you visit http://www.uk-yankee.com/ a website for US expats they have their own forum and you may find someone who has been though the process who can provide more detail.

I help people just like you who need help to find a good business. It takes time and patience and money. Beware the dangers of not having a professional hold your hand through the process. I help with the Search, evaluation , valuation and financing sources, and deal structure and terms. Along the way you may also need a Business plan and such. Couldn't possibly explain it all here!
